During the winter of 2018, Allan Sniffen, owner of the NY Radio Message Board, blasted WFAN’s Afternoon Drive Terrible Trio. The trio features Michael Kay, Boomer Esiason, and Craig Carton.
The duo has been criticized for their approach, which includes too much insider nonsense and a lack of caller interaction. However, they’re still working until ESPN decides to change things up.
The station was a longtime radio home for the Mets and New York Knicks. It also covered the New York Devils for many years. However, the station was forced to rely on non-sister stations for overflow broadcasts.
WFAN is simulcast over WFAN-FM (101.9 FM). WFAN is owned by Audacy, Inc., and its transmitter is located on High Island in the Bronx. The station’s 50,000-watt clear channel signal can be heard across the eastern United States. It also broadcasts its programming on the Internet through Audacy’s website.
During the 1990s, WFAN was a number one-billing station. In fact, it was the first 24-hour all-sports radio station in the country. The station also produced the Fox Sports Radio programing.
After Imus left WFAN, the station went through a number of guest hosts. The first was Ann Liguori, the first woman to host a sports show on the station.
